Official press release

There was no doubt that Dallas Burston Polo Club enjoyed its busiest weekend of the season. With a total of sixteen teams entering into three exciting tournaments (The Amaranther Trophy, The Tusk Trophy, The Dallas Burston Gold Cup) and the Royal Artillery Exhibition Game, not to mention Sunday?s Polo in the Park which also featured the tournament finals, a breathtaking jousting display, performances by The Warwickshire County Choristers, fun fair, pony rides, stalls and shopping, well this Warwickshire based polo club was certainly put to the test.

Proud winners of The Amaranther Trophy (0 Goal) were The Inn Team (Ian Donald, Annie Whitehouse, Crispin Matthews and Katie MacDonald), whilst the runners up were Offchurch Bury (Grant Collett, Jon Hickman, Michael Hall and Paul Clay) - their prizes and trophy were presented by members of the Royal Amaranther Society Ulf Karneman and soul diva Kym Mazelle.

When it came to the 4 Goal Tusk Trophy Tournament, the undisputed winners were C.A.N.I (Louise Jebson, Sebastian Funes, Jamie Potter and Grant Collett) who beat Camino Real (Josh Cork, Ollie Cork, Alex Vent and Michael Henderson) 6:3. C.A.N.I were also simultaneously awarded The Midlands? 4 Goal Championships Trophy and prizes by Southam and Kenilworth MP Jeremy Clark.

The highlight of the polo tournaments was undeniably The Dallas Burston Gold Cup Tournament (6 Goal) which saw a fierce battle between Rigby & Rigby (Steve Rigby, Tomas Iriarte, Matias Amaya and Jenny Rigby) and La Golondrina (Paul Oberschnider, Hugo Davis, Pedro Harrison and Matias Corrique), with La Golondrina finally achieving that winning goal 10:9. The trophy and prizes were presented by HRH Princess Katarina of Yugoslavia and Dr Dallas Burston.

To round off an already intense day of polo and umpired by the wonderful Barbara Zingg, The Royal Artillery polo team (Bombardier Richard Morris, Major Andy Woods, Bombardier Pippa Charman, Alex Vent and Karl Ude-Martinez) went head to head against the DBPC home team (Major Will Mawby, Major Robert Skeggs, Will Wood, Mark Weller) raising money for Help for Heroes.

Essentially the entire weekend, which attracted in the thousands, illustrated the consistent support of the sport, yet also a very real need to continue providing the local and regional areas with a fun and entertainment lead family day out.
